Queensland Drivers Dominate Formula 500 Series Round
17/01/2010 9:09:49 PM - Dennis Newlyn

Queensland drivers filled the first three placings in round four of the NSW Formula 500 Premier Drivers' Series at Lismore Speedway Saturday night.

It was a complete domination by the sunshine state as Dale Shillleto took the win in the 20-lap main event from lass Kristen Brown and Nathan Pronger.

The first NSW driver home in the feature race was Roy Urpeth in fourth spot followed by another New South Welshman Kenny Norman.

Meanwhile series leader Michael Baxter was credited with a lowly seventeenth placing in the point-scoring main event. It was Baxter's worst result so far in the series and has really left the championship wide open in the remaining rounds.

With Norman's fifth placing and Baxter's finishing order well back in the field, the battle for the series championship has closed up considerably as Norman chases a spot at the top of the leader board.

Shilleto, who also is the Victorian Formula 500 Champion, was the star of the night. He came from deep in the field for the win in the main event which ran flag-to-flag in the super-quick race time of four minutes, 35-seconds for the 20 lap distance.

Nathan Pronger was impressive in the three rounds of heats and scored two victories. Urpeth, Shilleto, Norman and Charlie Brown were other heat winners.

Meanwhile, with a tenth placing in the feature race, Scott Siemsen, who was placed third on the points chart entering the Lismore round, also has lost valuable ground on the front runners.

In a big variety programme at the Lismore venue, main events in other racecar categories also were keenly contested.

Jordan Biviano took out the Junior Sedan main event, while other feature race winners were Warren Dhu (Street Stocks), Trent Dhu (Four Cylinder Sedans), Nick Stubbs (AMCAs) and Dave Fleming (Lightning Sprints).

The action at Lismore Speedway continues next weekend with a big two night fixture featuring the running of the V8 Dirt Modified Masters on January 23 and 24.
