The oldest running Australian championship looks to be at Lismore Speedway next season!

Lismore Speedway Sets The Benchmark
30/01/2010 4:46:40 PM - Dennis Newlyn

LISMORE Speedway promoter David Lander has pulled off a major coup by securing three Australian championships to be run at the track next season.

Coming to town will be the 2011 Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship, and the national titles for Speedcars (Midgetcars) and Modified Production Sedans.

It is the first time in the 40-year history of the Lismore Showground as a speedway venue that a promoter has brought three Australian championships to the track in the same season.

“This represents a great opportunity for Lismore Speedway and for the city of Lismore,” Lander said.

“We will attract fans from throughout Australia for these events which have a strong following in Australian speedway.

“I believe it will be good for the local tourist industry and will certainly bring dollars into the town.”

The Australian Speedcar Championship is one of the oldest events in Australian speedway with a history tracing back to the 1930s.

The speedcar title not only attracts Australia’s best drivers but also top competitors from New Zealand and the United States.

In fact the current Australian Speedcar Champion is second generation American driver, Kevin Swindell.

This event alone will bring international visitors to Lismore.

Lander is working on his calendar for next summer to confirm race dates for the championships.

He envisages the Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship will be decided over two nights, Friday, January 21, and Saturday, January 22, 2011.

The national Speedcar title will be slotted in on Friday, February 18, and Saturday, February 19.

Lander plans to host the Australian V8 Modified Production Sedan Championship in April, 2011 over the Easter weekend.

Modified Productions are also going to be a great drawcard with huge car counts expected
