MATT GORDON DOMINATES LEGEND CAR LISMORE EVENTS

Matt Gordon enjoyed a successful night of competition at Castrol Lismore Saturday, November 18, after he took out the 15 lap Legend Car main event.

It was the perfect ending to the night for Gordon who earlier in the programme gave notice of what was to come when he won the opening heat.

Gordon set a cracking pace in the feature race and scored an impressive win. He was followed to the chequered flag by Rieley Fisher and Darren Snowden.

Fisher clocked the fastest lap time in the feature in his hot pursuit of Gordon when he stopped the timer with a 16.089 second lap midway through the event.

The Legend Cars will make further appearances during the 2023-24 Lismore season and it sets the scene nicely for the major event on the Legend Cars yearly calendar – the Australian Championship – set for the 2024 June long weekend at Castrol Lismore Speedway.

Numbers are on the increase throughout Australia for this very popular and cheaper entry division into the sport.

Since their inception into Australian speedway some years ago, the division has proven more than a worthy class.

According to Legend Cars Australia specs, the only engines permitted are Yamaha: XJ 1250 XJ 1219 XJ R1200 FJ 1200 FJ 1100

The Legend Cars look great on the track and are based on 1930sa and 40s American hot rods and coupes. The division can run on both dirt and asphalt surfaces – and this represents one of the many attractions for this class of speedway racing.

Technical experts say in around two hours the car can be changed from dirt specs to asphalt and visa-versa.

Legend Cars represent a race car that is versatile, low budget entry and very adaptable for different race track surfaces. The little cars, with their big racing are what the sanctioning body Legend Cars Australia represents.
