Newcastle’s Shane Carlson, driving a BA Ford Falcon, will chase a repeat victory when he contests the RSA Street Stocker 50 lap main event at Castrol Lismore Speedway this weekend. The Summerland Street Saloon Club’s long distance feature race will be a highlight of the June 8-9 two-day twilight fixture which brings down the curtain on the 2023-2024 season at the Lismore Showground.

Carlson led Connor Reeves and Adrian Williams to the chequered flag in last season’s 50 lapper and with 26 entries received by race organisers, the competition will be intense. Drivers have come from near and far for the weekend’s racing, especially David Robertson who has travelled from Gilgandra for the Sunday portion of the two day fixture culminating with the 50 lap final.

Adrian and Todd Clark, representing the Portland Club, are also amongst the out-of-towners who have hauled into Lismore for the King’s Birthday long weekend speedway spectacular. Carlson is one of the most experienced drivers entered, though he will face some tough opposition. One driver who looms as a major contender is local regular Jakob Lesha (VS Holden Commodore). He is the form driver entering this weekend following consistent, impressive performances. He comes fresh off a second placing in the recent Stocksville race at Grafton Speedway and he was a prominent finisher in the New South Wales Championship at the Goulburn Speedway, while he has also put together a string of podium results at Lismore.

Reeves (BA Ford Falcon) also cannot be discounted in the form guide and looms as a potential top three finisher amongst a number of chances in the impressive nomination list. The Summerland Street Saloon Club has worked closely with Castrol Lismore Speedway promoters Kim and Mick Sauer to ensure the season ends on a high note.
“It’s the celebration for the end of the season and we try to make it enjoyable for everybody. Every driver who starts the feature will walk away with something,” a club spokesperson said.

The Saturday Street Stocker schedule of events features two heats with random and reverse starting positions. The Scrambles will be double heat points and highest point scorer will start from the rear of the field for the Scramble. Another two heats will be decided on Sunday to finalise the top 24 drivers who will race for 50 lap honours.

A feature of the weekend will be the running of the Australian Legend Cars Championship, while AMCA Nationals, Wingless Sprints, Production Sedans and Junior Sedans are also featured.
