A special event during the King’s Birthday June 8 and 9 long weekend meeting at Castrol Lismore Speedway will be the running of the 2024 AMCA Nationals’ Fallen Memorial race.

This is the second running and this year’s Memorial is dedicated to two AMCA members who have passed away in recent years, Justin Gorter and Peter Gordon.
It will be a solemn occasion but also a celebration of their life as AMCA drivers race in their memory and chase $10,000 in total prizemoney on offer over the weekend.
The final, sponsored by Smith’s Auto in Grafton and Probuild Repairs and Renovations from south-east Queensland, will be decided over 50 laps on the Sunday.

Promoters Mick and Kim Sauer know what this race means to the AMCA fraternity.
“It’s a very special race for the AMCA Nationals people and we are proud to honour two of their most devoted people with the running of this year’s Memorial,” Kim Sauer said.

Likewise, the AMCA Nationals’ Lismore-Grafton group have special memories of their two “fallen comrades.”
“Justin started out his Speedway enjoyment on the spanners working on Sprintcars with Peter Murphy Racing at Parramatta,” a spokesperson for AMCA Nationals said.
“He eventually moved to the Tweed where he and his brother purchased Max’s Auto in South Tweed Heads. In 2011, Justin become involved with Hardy’s Motorsport and was a very valuable and loved crew member.

“Justin travelled to many Australian Speedway tracks with Russ and Matt and the Hardy’s Motorsport team where they achieved great success.
“Justo is missed in the Speedway world and especially the Hardy’s Motorsport Team.
“Peter Gordon was a local Graftonite who competed in AMCAs until the early 2000s who went on to engineering exhaust systems for 888 Racing.
“Peter was planning a comeback to racing AMCAs before his sudden passing in January this year (2024). Peter is dearly missed by family and friends alike.”
Both drivers were popular identities in the AMCA Nationals ranks.
