The heavy hitters of the V8 Dirt Modified division will be out in force in a bid to etch their name on the annual Castrol Lismore Speedway season opener Lord Mayor’s Cup, this Saturday night, November 2.

It’s an event that over the past two decades has gained considerably in prestige and status. It’s become a signature race that, by its very name, automatically indicates another season at the Lismore Showground Speedway is underway.

The entry list includes former winners who will be looking for a repeat performance in the 2024 race. Mark Robinson, who won this event as far back as 2008, will be hoping to retain the trophy, while Andrew Pezzutti was the winner in 2007. These two drivers, both with Lord Mayor’s Cup multiple wins in following years, take a unique place in the history of this race and are the standouts through their longevity in this event.

Another strong entry for Saturday night, Mitch Randall, got the job done in 2020 and the form guide indicates the 2024 edition of the V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup will live up to all expectations.

The main event promises to be a cracker and so many drivers come into contention, especially David Clarke, winner of the Australian Championship at Bundaberg’s Carina Speedway entering this season’s full campaign. It’s interesting to note Clarke won his first National V8 Dirt Modified title back in 2014 at the Lismore circuit.

“There are Australian and State Champions on the entry list for the 2024 V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup,” Castrol Lismore Speedway co-promoter Kim Sauer said.
“That’s the appeal of this race, with a lot of strong contenders entered. It’s certain to be another great running of this event which now commands a wonderful place in the long and illustrious history of Castrol Lismore Speedway.”

Other impressive drivers who have entered are Seiton Connor-Young, Trent Scofield, Phil McNamara, Dale Corbett, Josh Rose, Mick Reid, Brock Armstrong and Blake Everleigh, though nobody can be discounted when it gets down to the business end of the night.
The V8 Dirt Modifids will be supported with racing for AMCA Nationals, Wingless Sprints, RSA Stockers, RSA Four Cylinders, Junior Sedans (New Stars) and Junior Sedans (Top Stars).

A free pre-season practice night is set down for this Friday, November 1, while on Saturday morning (November 2) a race fan appreciation event will be conducted between 9 and 11am in the City of Lismore Central Business District (CBD).

On race day, gates will open at 1PM in preparation for a race fan pit walk.
