Castrol Lismore Speedway hosts the 2025 running of the New South Wales AMCA Championship this Saturday night, May 3.
Race organisers have received close to 30 entries for the event which will be run over a series of qualifying heats to determine the field for the title-deciding final.
The AMCA cars, recognised as one of the lower budgeted entry divisions into Australian speedway, are also acknowledged as one of the most competitive categories on the national scene.
Son of a gun, Nathan Herne, the super-fast Matt Hardy, Tony Blanch, Shane Newstead, Andrew Firth, Raymond Kime, Tim Gamble, David Robertson and Paul Reeves are only some of the fancied runners amongst a host of title chances.
Newstead has not competed regularly at the Lismore Showground this season, but he is one driver who comes into the title field with a wealth of experience. He is also one of the most travelled AMCA competitors in the country having competed in the Northern Territory in recent times.
Promoters Mick and Kim Sauer are eagerly anticipating the AMCA state championship and believe the competition will be on in earnest right from the outset.
“The AMCAs can certainly provide good racing and the NSW Championship will bring out the best in everyone,” Kim Sauer said.
“It’s not easy to pick the winner, but whoever does win the state title will have certainly earned the victory.”
AMCAs will be supported with racing for V8 Dirt Modifieds, Wingless Sprints, Restricted Sedan Association (RSA) Stockers, RSA Four Cylinder Sedans, also Junior Sedans featuring the Top Stars and New Stars categories.
Another special attraction on the card this weekend will be the RSA “Mothers Mayhem” Ladies Race (RSA Sedans) with 15 entrants. One particular nomination that has captured attention is from co-promoter Kim Sauer who will compete in the event and she will also have her mother Meryl Everingham as riding passenger in the two-seat car.
After this weekend’s meeting only the two night Chilly Nationals (June 7 and 8) remains on the calendar before the curtain comes down on another season of racing at the famous Lismore Showground Speedway venue.
As previously announced, there will be a change of promotional control at the venue after the season concludes. Mick and Kim Sauer will end their three year tenure and hand over the track’s operation to Grafton promoters Mick and Cindy Corbett, effective June 30, 2025.
