A CLASSY FIELD SET FOR DECEMBER 26

A very impressive entry list will contest the opening round of the annual Mr Modified Series at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway on Boxing Day, December 26.

Over 22 nominations have been received for the opener which will be highlighted with a 40-lap main event. Points earned in the opening stanza will carry over to the second and deciding round of the annual tournament at the venue on January 8.

A number of highly fancied runners, and also a group of former Mr Modified series winners, are included in the starting line-up.

“I am very pleased with the nominations and there are certainly more than enough good cars entered to make this night one of the best of not only this season, but past season opening rounds,” promoter David Lander said.

“The Mr Modified series, particularly the opening round, always delivers because everyone is chasing those vital early points to be in a good position for the final in January.”

The defending Mr Modified series champion Mitch Randall has entered.

Randall set up the victory last season following a very impressive win in this corresponding race last year. He then clinched the series with a runner-up main event result to Andrew Pezzutti early January.

Randall also took out the opening Mr Modified series round in 2019 so this coming Boxing Day he will be chasing the elusive hat-trick of opening round successes.

According to Mr Modified series records tracing back many years, nobody has ever won three consecutive opening rounds, so Mitch is on the brink of setting a special place for himself in the annals of Mr Modified series competition.

Other Mr Modified winners over the recent era in the field include not only Pezzutti, but also Mark Robinson and Scott Cannon. Strong runners Phil McNamara, Andrew Firth, Scott Quirk, Sam Bruggy and Brayd Stephenson have filed nominations among a number of other drivers who have been impressive regulars in the Mr Modified series.

Josh Rose also has impressed in the Mr Modified series in recent years and took out the final round back in 2019.

Heats and a six lap trophy dash will precede the running of the Boxing Day 40-lap main event.

It's a big variety programme to commence the 2021-2022 season high time with racing also for Wingless Sprints, AMCA Nationals, Production Sedans, Street Stocks, RSA Four Cylinder Sedans and Junior Sedans.

Gates open at 4pm and racing commences at 5:30 on December 26. (STORY BY DENNIS NEWLYN).
