Lismore Speedway would like to say a massive Happy 70th Birthday to our beloved speedway narrator Dennis Newlyn, we are a few days late but couldn't say anything before as a surprise party was organised for him in Sydney with some of his dearest speedway family and friends. The surprise party was hard to do as Dennis sniffs out information from every corner of the globe, so well done to all the organisers.. SURPRISE!

Below is what Dennis posted on his face book page yesterday.

I was overwhelmed by the massive number of birthday wishes yesterday (March 5).
He said, Today I feel very humble and also very privileged to know all these wonderful speedway people, thanks to birthday wishes from Australia, America, England and New Zealand. The kind words from so many, including former Australian Solo, Sidecar, Speedcar, Sprintcar and Sedan Champions is so much appreciated.
But the massive surprise was on the night of March 5 with a birthday bash that knocked me off my feet.
The starting line-up read like a who's who of Australian speedway: Garry Rush, Barry Graham, Troy Jenkins, Darren Jenkins, Stan Lawrence (All former Australian Speedcar, Jack Porritt, Dave Lander, Chas Kelly, Kevin Gormly, Ray Redding, Sid Middlemass, Bob Blacklaw, Paul Rowlands, Ken Jenkins, Joe Tatnell, Richard Day, David Day, Tony Bennetts, Terry Bennett, Keith Nicholls, Allan Edworthy, Stuart Telfer, Lance Wilson, Graham Daley, Richard Stott, Alan Skene, Steve McEvoy.
Also: Steve Raymond, Phil Christensen, Peter McKay, Geoff Davis, Wayne Meyer, Tony Loxley, Andrew Green, Peter Baker, Bill Bowling, Alan Wheeler, Mal Paton, Bob Jeffreson, Bill Powell, Ken Mason.
Many were accompanied by their wives or partners on this night. that was not only THE BEST day of my life, but an occasion that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I was overwhelmed and almost completely overcome emotionally by the occasion. Thanks to everyone at the party and on facebook for your wonderful, kind words.
SPECIAL THANKS TO: Richard Day, Carole Day, Geoff Davis and not the least Phil Christensen for putting the birthday bash together. It was something very special and the highlight of my life.
ALSO to Allan Edworthy as MC of the night.
(If I have missed anyone I sincerely apologise as everyone in the room are people who mean so much to me!)
