TIME is fast approaching for the start of the 2019-2020 season on November 2 at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.
Promoter David Lander has certainly put the 2019 winter off-season to good use and has come up with a very attractive calendar for the upcoming 16 – fixture term, which commences with the annual V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor's Cup.
V8 Dirt Modifieds will feature more prominently this season, while there's no doubt the return of World Series Sprintcars will be a stand-along season highlight.
The December-January high time will incorporate six meetings crammed into a month – and all will be high quality shows.
The massive month starts on December 26 with the opening round of the Mr Modified series. Other peak season dates are: January 11(Mr Modified Final), January 14 (World Series Sprintcars), January 18 (Northern Rivers Junior Sedan Championship), January 25 (NSW V8 Dirt Modified Australia Day Cup – AMCA Nationals' Northern Rivers Classic – night one), January 26 (Australia Day V8 Dirt Modified Cup final – AMCA Nationals Northern Rivers Classic final).
“There's no doubt in my mind, this will be one of our best-ever seasons in the long history of the Lismore Showground as a speedway venue,” Lander said.
“The return of the World Series Sprintcars Championship is big news and it's wonderful to have this long running series back at one of the originating tracks from the days when World Series Sprintcars commenced in the late eighties.”
Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway came in on the ground floor when the national sprintcar travelling road show was introduced into the Australian speedway scene and has hosted WSS a number of times over the years. It has been several seasons since WSS last appeared at Lismore. Equally significant is Lander's long time role in hosting or presenting World Series Sprintcars.
He has been either a track promoter or overall series operator tracing way back to his time when he promoted the Parramatta and Newcastle venues, before going on the road with WSS as tournament promoter some years ago. Stats reveal he has promoted over 23 rounds.
There are strong, early indications America will again be represented in the 2019-2020 season WSS and an impressive line-up almost certainly will haul into the City of Lismore for round ten of the 14 race national tournament.
Other Lismore season highlights are: November 16 (Wingless Sprints 100-lap AGP – AMCA Nationals Andrew Walker Shield), November 30 (“The Dream” Production Sedan 30-lap feature), February 15 (Newcastle Street Stock Series), February 29 (V8 Dirt Modified Scramble), March 14 (Production GP,) March 28 (V8 Dirt Modifieds' Triple 20s), April 11/12 (V8 Dirt Modified Easter Nationals/Wingless Sprints Easter trail), April 18 (Australian Demolition Derby Championship) – DENNIS NEWLYN.
