MITCH Randall took out the Australia Day V8 Dirt Modified Cup at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway Sunday night, January 26.
Randall led Mark Robinson and Klinton Hancey to the chequered flag in the 30-lap final. Randall clearly stamped his authority on the race after he posted the fastest lap of the main event at 101.230 km/h for a lap time of 14.225 seconds.
The weekend racing schedule was interrupted by inclement weather after rain washed out the original opening fixture on the two-night schedule on Saturday night.
Promoter David Lander pushed the schedule back 24 hours and today will run the final round of the Mr Modified series as a twilight fixture.
“The weather certainly played havoc with our Australia Day double header,” he said.
“But I wanted to give our very loyal fans two full race meetings as we originally planned, so I recheduled night two (today) as an afternoon-early evening finish for the holiday Monday.”
Randall was in fine form at the Australia Day meeting and earlier in the night he took out a heat to consolidate a good starting position in the Cup final.
Other heat winners were: Andrew Pezzutti, Sam Bruggy, Chris Polsen, Lee Gorton and Robinson.
The night also featured the preliminary main event in the build up to the final of the annual Northern Rivers Classic for AMCA Sedans.
Shane Newstead won the 20-lap feature race from Steve Price and defending Classic winner Thomas Vickery.
The BH Contracting Drivers to America series round feature race was another exciting affair and was won by Jacob Jolley (Sunday night).
Other feature race winners from Sunday night were: Brock Youngberry (Junior Sedans), Brodie King (Nationals 4s), Nathan Gordon (Production sedans), Brock Armstrong (Street Stocks).
