DARREN KANE CHASES ANOTHER ECGN WIN

One of the first entries for the 2024 East Coast Grand National, on Saturday, April 20 at Castrol Lismore Speedway, came from a man who certainly knows his way around the circuit, namely Queensland’s Darren Kane. The five time National Super Sedan Champion and twice Australian Late Model titleholder has won the East Coast Grand National three times in an era when it was also known as The Grenville, held in memory of Lismore icon, the late Grenville Anderson.
The Lismore Showground venue holds special memories for Darren when in 2009 he raced to his second career victory in the Super Sedan national title.

Likewise, it’s the East Coast Grand National that also has a special meaning for Darren.
“When I was growing up I used to buy the Oval Track publication when it was in a paper format, and also other speedway publications and I used to read about the East Coast Grand National race. When I came to Queensland in 2001, it was an ambition of mine to win that race,” Darren, 55, said.
Originally from Tasmania, Darren Kane, whose racing career spans thirty-plus years, has enjoyed plenty of success on the mainland running for Ian Boettcher Race Parts in a working association with the company extending over 23 years. He has entered for the 2024 ECGN driving the Dominator Ian Boettcher Race Parts Gen Five Super Sedan.
“Lismore is a place where I love to race,” Darren added. “It’s a venue that even when you drive into the place, you know it’s full of great history. It’s a pretty special place.”
The circular Lismore Showground track is a testing circuit and “you need a car that’s balanced properly to win races around Lismore and you have to be race fit.”
